👮 Halloween and Bonfire Safety 👮

Today, Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Team have visited Woodhoots Nursery in Shirebrook to teach the children on how to stay safe during the Halloween and Bonfire season. With that being said, staying safe around this time is appropriate advice for all ages; so here are some ways to ensure you have a fun but also a safe time this year and for years to come.

- Only over 18s should light fireworks and bonfires. Always keep fireworks out of reach of children.
- Keep costumes away from naked flames as they can ignite quickly due to the material used. This applies also to Halloween decorations, keep them away from naked flames.
- Keep children and pets away from naked flames and ensure all pets are safety secure in the house before setting off fireworks.
- Educate your children about fire safety.
- Always dial 999 in an emergency. If you see fire or smoke, or if someone is seriously ill or injured  - call 999 immediately.
- Never return to a firework once it has been lit and never throw fireworks or aerosols into a bonfire – this could produce toxic fumes or cause explosions and serious injury.
- Ensure all children are supervised when using sparklers and ensure the children have non-flammable gloves on when using sparklers.
